Betty (Buckler) Thompson

Friends…..Christmastime does not always bring jolly news to everyone. Unfortunately, I have bad news for the Buckler family/friends and our classmates.

Our dear classmate, Betty (Buckler) Thompson, lost her battle with MS on December 22, about 9:00 a.m. Her loving husband and family were by her side. Tim, her husband, was holding her hand as she drew her last breath. Betty knew how much she was loved by him because as he was telling her of his love for her, she was able to gently squeeze his hand. What a way to go! Betty is being cremated and there will be a memorial service the first or second week of January. I will post the obit and details as they become available to me.

Since Tim (Lasseter) Latta moved to Ft. Worth, she had been able to visit with Betty and Tim about every other week. Those visits were enjoyed by all.

Please keep Betty’s dear family in your prayers.

  1. From David McPhail …
I contacted Betty soon after I returned to Texas. Of course, that is when I was assigned to call fellow graduates who lived in the Ft. Worth area. We had a great conversation and that is when I learned that she had MS. I have to think that she was one of my best friends when we were in high school. May she rest in peace!

Betty and I go back as far as the second grade at Dean- Highland. We were also in Blue Birds together way back then, too. Where did all those years go? She was a wonderful person and I know she will be missed by many. I am so sorry she did not get to attend our last reunion as she had expressed a desire to do so. Her sweet husband was ever-so-willing to bring her had she felt she possessed the strength.

  3. From Betty (Barkley) Flowers …
Thank you for this update of Betty’s death. I believe she battled this terrible disease for at least 10 yrs.! Awful…. Goodness, we are losing a lot of our class, but what fun memories for most of us.

  4. From Elizabeth (Blair) Shandalow …
Betty was always one of my favorites to be around. She had a really quick sense of humor which made her fun. She was smart and clever and so pretty. I am so sad to hear of her passing. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family.

  5. These are wonderful photos of Betty and her oldest chums. Are you able to scan the photos so that we can make them larger? (You know how it is . . . .) It would be great to see those remembered faces more clearly. Thank you.
